Afternoon Flight
She glances at her watch. 2 PM. Looks up into the hot summer sky.
Wipes the sweat off her forehead and the tears from her eyes, takes a sip of Evian.
He asks the time. 2 PM. Looks out the window at the rapidly disappearing city below.
Thinks of her, and the sorrowful goodbye. He's tired of playing the leading role of
tough guy, tired of being her rock. All he wants to do is give in to the ripping
sensation inside his heart and sob her name. Instead, he leans back in his seat and
closes his eyes.
Time check. 2:05. Has it only been half an hour since we were together?

I'm holding her back, he worries.
2:11
She glances up again at the burning sun.
Whispers, "forever, my love, if that's how long it takes."
2:12
He peaks out the window, only to find a blanket of clouds below. Shuts the shade
on the window, leans his seat back.
"I'll be back for my heart soon, baby doll."
