So I Say
So I have a passion for
Sinatra in Vegas--
burnin' 'round midnight
at the doomed Sands--
Death Valley in summertime,
the blackland prairie
from eight miles up
on a clear day
(reminding me I'm home),
and the wind that blows
across the Llano Estacado...
And more,
so much more--
Gustav Mahler and
Gary Stewart,
strong coffee and
strong women,
Bacall in a noir twilight
waving that long
goodbye...
But I love you more
and deeper
than all of this.
You are summation--
where the road led at
the end of the day.
So I say
what we have was inevitable,
babe.
Don't you know that?
Of course you do.
And I do too.
You're my kick-ass comrade
in love,
and we're bonded alright.
There's no goin' back now--
only forward and out
the other side
into the sun and the light.
The signs point just one
way.
So I say:
Just go with it,
lean on it--
and we can lean on each other
like two vets
tellin' war stories
over cold ones
behind the firehouse
on a hot July day.
Am I pushin' the envelope yet?
I sure hope so!
You should know
I'm insatiable when it comes
to this love thing.
So I say
to you--
my sweetest girl,
my life,
my world--
let's be insatiable together--
driven mad with madder love
forever.
