Porcelain
The glaze is smooth
baked in the kiln
and fired by pure emotion
porcelain finish
to cover the rough spots
of what began as clay.
The hands that shaped it
spun it
formed it
poured dreams into the mix,
and prayed for beauty
in the final product
all the while
going through
the messy process
of kneading
pinching
and prodding the air
from stubborn clay
because those little bubbles
are what can shatter
when the heat goes up
in that final bake
to perfection.
The expert potter
can feel
when the stuff
has reached it's proper state,
when it can handle
that last blaze
and come out whole
and lovely
and worth
the time and attention
and is less likely
to break apart
in the process
of being made glorious.
