The True Journey
Lovers do not run in straight lines
Across green meadows, unfettered,
But rather zigzag
Tripping on uneven ground
Felled by past hurts.
They struggle to their feet
And gaze over yellowed grasses
For new direction.
When they do embrace
It is not the climax of a foregone conclusion
But rather a tender miracle
For those who did not abandon the journey
In favor of torched ground better known.
