Risky Business
All right my love,
I know your mind well enough by now.
She's talking crazy.
She Can't do that---
or in a serious extreme,
I can stop her before she ruins her life.
And I will tell you I'm deadly serious.
I'm not interested in a tourist stop,
am not coming to see the sights
or sample the cuisine.
I could care less if your company is witty.
I want to be there.
For a day...for two.
And you can sleep.
And if you can't sleep
I will read to you, sing to you,
talk to you..
or simply clean you up when you're shaky.
And don't you dare do that silly male ego thing
because I have earned the right
to see you when it's not perfect,
have bought my way into two days
of sharing oxygen,
sleeping near you
hearing you dream
and you have no right to protect me from that.
And we can fight about it.
You can get your back up,
and say no.
But I'm still coming.
You can even ignore me,
and think to save me from the folly of my heart---
but it won't change a damned thing.
Some things a body just has to do.
some tasks a soul just does,
some things you can't deny
without killing off a part of a heart.
And I'm much more alive
when I listen to my heart's voice,
and you can't protect me from that.
