Surrender To You
Will you even be able to guess
behind those eyes gone to melted chocolate
and utter tenderness awash with love
how difficult it will be for me
to take your hand that first time---
to ease into your arms
and tuck my heart in your shirt pocket?
Will it scare you when I shake,
will you understand that it isn't fear---
and if there are tears---will you call it regret,
and curse yourself as clumsy?
Not the first time I have been touched---
but the first time I have been loved,
when it wasn't about some silly race of fulfillment.
No.
I will come to you in innocence of the heart,
more longing than guile to my touch,
and I will not be your most perfect lover
because I will be drinking in
every moment.
I lost my first bit of innocence to impatient youth,
not understanding what it was that I did.
But life has primed me,
and love has taught me
and the need I feel for you
may find it's expression in touch
but will tap into a wellspring of purity
that I never lost
and that I know now was waiting for you.
I will wait for you to say when it is to be,
or even my darling man,
if it is to be---
and I will come to you trembling
for the joy in my breast
and the sweet solemn bliss of a kiss given
to the man I was meant to love.
That will be for your choosing,
but know this---
my heart goes with you
with or without my body.
That much we have done,
and I shall never
yes---I said never
be less than your lover---
and I will be warmed
because somehow
I have ever been your love.
