The Picture from Afar
The trouble with dimes is that they eventually make dollars,
and the trouble with hicks is that they work down in the hollars,
Men love women and women love men,
Kids love parents, but not like they did then,
Your mother is your guide,
but she places to many rules,
There's not enough males teaching in public schools,
The divorce rate is up, unemployment is down,
Transformers and Thundercats can rarely be found,
Meatloaf is good, but steak is even better,
We all like Velveeta, cuz hey, it's made of cheddar,
Christianity is on the spread, and prayer is out of schools,
We all know how to do the job, but we never have the tools,
Inflation is at a standstill, yet many go unfed,
It seems you only get noticed, when and after you're dead,
Suicide is almost commonplace, murder is pretty close,
It's alright to kill a fetus, but it's not to pierce your nose,
Old women have short hair, and the young like it long,
and I bet you wish that I was a singer to put these words to song,
I don't pretend to understand why things are they way they are,
and I think they're better understood, when you watch from afar.
