Ticking Of A Heart
The ticking beat of the human heart
keeps it's own version of time,
speeding up indecently at times
or slowing to a crawl when
a lady is forced to wait and see.
I prefer the heart's version of time,
no greenwich mean,
mountain central,
no time lost to turning back,
my own rythmn
my own reasons
I guess some would rather have a rolex,
accurate within a nanosceond,
and pricey with penache.
But my heart keeps time
well enough for my purposes
and probably has Timex
stamped on it's underside.
It's taken a licking
and kept on ticking
and when I am waiting for you
time is ever my demon lover
and it doesn't matter if
the clock counting it
cost me a king's ransom
or came in a box of wheaties.
Time spent without you drags
like a slug belly.
So there.
