"a forever"...
As he glanced around the room, his eyes rested on the girl in the center. Gesturing animatedly, with red, heated cheeks, and eyes full of fire, she was irresistible. He couldn’t pull his eyes away. So he let them stare.
In the pivotal moment of her conversation, she felt it. She tilted her head to one said, and let instinct take over. Then she saw him. Alone in a corner. As if someone out of a book. And he was staring right at her. Breaking off suddenly from her conversation, she walked right up to him, and then stopped.
She had seen him. And not only that, she had wandered over to him.
“Hi.”
He gulps.
“Hello.”
“I see you were staring at me.”
“Yes.”
“Do you find me extremely beautiful or amazingly ugly?”
“Neither. I find you appealing.”
“No adjective in front?”
“Wonderfully.”
She smiles and sees he is one of her kind after all.
“I would love a drink.”
“My cue.”
He motions for a waiter. She orders a dry martini.
“For a drink, can I have a name?”
“Charisma.”
“Devon.”
They talk for hours, barely noticing the time. Then she rises.
“I have to go.”
“I know.”
They stare at each other, now knowing what to say. Whether to ask to see each other once more, or to end it as it was. Like a dream.
She makes up her mind.
“Goodnight…”
“I see.”
“I want to remember you forever.”
Once again he understands. And yet she explains.
“To see you again would be a flaw in the perfect dream I’ve created. Please…”
“I know.”
He silences her. Picking up her hand, he kisses it once, softly, and a piece of delicate like glass, he drops it once again as if he were afraid to hold it too long for spoiling its beauty.
“Goodbye…”
“No. No, not goodbye.”
Remember me…
He walks away.
