you let me paint one more watercolor before bed
and eat one more Godiva bar
and sing one more song
and write one last poem
and buy one more magazine
and dance one last dance
and leave the bathroom light on
because I am haunted
and sometimes I cry out
like a wounded animal
in my sleep.
