far cry

rainbow falling on the shoulder of a homeless child in central l.a.
not many people's ideas about pots of gold turn out that way

beggar's canyon
thoughts of bold type spelling in the daily log
a faceless name
handcuffed shame attached forever
bootstrap leather too tight to wrap hope around
get a grip and yank awhile
talk with style
speak with indecision through a megaphone
no doubt, you're loud
no doubt, your father's proud
he's beaming back twenty years
streaming tears about how you're just like him
the pantheon in primrose square don't get you
they've got their own world
don't mind when their curled lips turn towards you
they'd like to own you if they could
suck out your imagination and tag their names to it
market it
make a bundle
take credit
and lazily accept the praise it brings them
nevermind your tears were there before they paved heaven's highway
nevermind you've been sold out
it doesn't even matter what you were talking about
or who's heart stuck the rewind button down
every lover makes lonely sounds sometimes
yours are art
no doubt, you're known
you're not alone
