Fool's Gold

Coming 'round full circle,
finding fool's gold
while mining the heart of souls.

Descriptive verse cannot contain
the definition of emotion until the last
morsel of the vein has been weighed and sold
silver or gold,
more fool's gold
of a heartless soul.

Misery beneath me
heartache apart
find within me
some streak of hope.

Poet abandonment
of terse verse
writes for the dying
in need of atonement
for the foolish rush
to mine
the soul's gold,
a fool am I?
