Goodbye
There we were
Standing outside under the stars.
You were getting ready to leave.
I couldn't let go.
I wanted to hold on to you, to us
forever.
I breathed in the scent of you
Because I knew it would be a long time
Until you returned.
I tried not to cry
But the tears came anyway.
I looked up at the moon
and then at you.
I traveled the length of your face
Trying to memorize each detail.
I then lost myself in your arms
Trying to escape one last time.
Time stood still for awhile.
Then it was time for you to go.
I watched you walk away
And I knew that I would never
Love someone as much as I love you.
