Judge Me By My Actions

You seem surprised by my words of ardor
unleashed
from a heart overflowing with only your image.
But don’t be, I beg you.
Let me be judged on my actions
because in all honesty
there really are no words to reflect how I felt
when you slipped into my arms
wrapping me as close as humanly possible
as if you wanted to share my skin awhile.
And you looked me square in the eyes and said those words,
words I thought trite, overused, meaningless
but at that moment took on such weight and depth of meaning
because I believed you
to the very bottom of my soul.
And at that moment
when I vowed my love
heaven as my witness
I meant every word.
And won’t the world think us crazy
to even believe
that a dust covered cowboy
could win the love of a girl such as you,
tough as nails
yet soft as satin against my wind roughed cheek.
