Takin' Care of Bizness (in a Flash)

everyone knows we won't last
my step-brother saw the tired on my face
last night
my mother saw the rumpled bed in the other room
on her way
to work
and the people in the karaoake bar on Beale Street
saw me slurping a Cherry Bomb
and swigging Budweiser
while you sipped a blue drink
clearly not enthused
by the sista's rendition of "Killing Me Softly"

everyone thinks we're Romeo and Juliet
Harold and Maude
Elvis and Priscilla
soul mates for sure
we got that til death do us part sheen
I'm your queen in red crushed velvet
and liquid black eyeliner
oooh yeah
baby baby
we go from our bed out
into the voyeuristic world
strange eyes envy
our puerile hand-holdin' spontaneous huggin' nose rubbin' luv

it's nice
so nice
sittin' on a couch upstairs
in a retro disco club
watchin' the mating ritual
feeling exempt.
