God's Bus Stop
God is out of it.
His alleged words
His alleged plan
His alleged laws
will not lay the foundation for our marriage.
everyday we live on San Andreas Fault
everyday people who love God get swallowed into the earth
or whirled away by tornadoes
or shot in schools
while the red white and blue whips in the wind
everyday we pretend that things will get better
we don't know how
I call you Cookie Bear
I caress your face
and you tell me it tickles
you carry out the garbage
I clean the bathroom
I accuse I yell I slam the door
you get silent
and the violence is purple blue black green
and restless under the surface
...things will get better
God is out of it
and so is Darwin
and Dylan
and John Lennon
and your parents and mine
it's just us
you
me
we are flawed and fragile
whipping
in the wind.
