Late Night Drowning

Late Night Drowning

Late into the night I listen,
the sound of a distant train whistle
is drowned out by the ocean,
and the ocean is you...
the sound of your heart in my ear,
the caress of your fingers on my cheek
slowly draws love as I sleep,
sheets wrapped around us
their cool softness against the heat of our bodies
lying damp from the sweat of accepting your love,
the feeling of one,
lost together in your eyes
I taste your neck laid bare to my lips,
skin to mine,
almost too hot to touch,
Sleeping souls in the aftermath
smoke smolders still as silent embers burn
warmth for tomorrow,
a feeling of complete
The salt of tears and sweat
that takes me to your ocean,
you drown out the world around
your hand in mine takes us there
to walk on the shores of our love,
footprints in the sand through the long night
trace our path through the past,
following the stars brings us home again....
