Jewels

When I was seven, I had a stomach virus on Easter morning. I got to skip
church but it wasn't worth replacing chocolate with pepto-bismol. Not
that day. All the candy eggs stayed in their shiny wrappers. I snuck one
out of the tangled plastic grass, but threw it up in the driveway. I have
hated 'pepto-bismol pink' ever since. I can have Easter candy the day after
Valentine's now, if I want. They put it on the shelf just for me, in
purple, gold and spring green foil. And you look at me approvingly when
I grab two bags. You never make me wait until Easter. You just love me.
