Walls of the Heart

My heart has had walls up around it for some time now
Walls made of steel and stone and metal
Some have tried to knock it down
But many have failed
Little pieces have fallen here and there
But it always managed to build itself right back up again

You came back into my life after so long
And without even knowing, you broke down the walls
The pieces of steel and metal have melted
The stone has faded away
My heart is vulnerable to you now

I feel as though my heart is out on my sleeve
Able for you to see all the ruff edges
Able for you to see all the deep wounds

You have my heart in your hands...
Please don’t squeeze too hard
For fear that you may break it
Please don’t drop it
For fear that you may lose it

I trust you now with this heart of mine
So vulnerable, yet so full of life and love
The walls have fallen for you and I let them
As long as I have you
The walls will forever have fallen
