I never asked for an angel
wearing gossamer veils of silken flow

I only prayed for someone
Who could lift a broken heart
And pull it from the dark
cold  night.
I only prayed for someone who would say my name at night
And I would hear the love ring bright
in every word.
I only prayed for someone to simply hold my hand
Back me up when I was forced to make a stand
against the evil of this world.

I never asked for an angel
Wrapped in heavenly glow
No
I only prayed for you to come into my world
To be the one I could call babygirl
and see you smile at the word.
I only prayed for you to be the one
Who would look at my life and never run
leaving me all alone.
I only prayed you'd be true to me
And be my eyes when I cannot see
the path I need to walk.

I never asked for an angel
With wings to catch me when I fall
But it seems God really does know all,
For he looked beyond the words I never did say
And sent you to my life anyway.
An angel to fill every unspoken need
To till the fertile soil of my heart
and plant love there as her only seed.
An angel to help this one lonely man
To make me more than I already am.
An angel to reach into my soul
and call it her own, making me whole.

You are an angel
Wearing your earthly guise.
And you are my angel
