' Tidal Movements '

  Tidal Movements

I am the incoming tide
approaching the shore
under the cover of midnight.
The sea mist and sound of my waves
seduces the shoreline.
It remains still and
submits to my movement.
The shoreline lays before me
and receives the repeated thrusts
of the forward-moving cylinder of water.
With each withdrawal of the wave
the shoreline glistens with wetness.

High tide is reached.
Foam which rode
the crest of the wave is visible.
The shoreline and the tide
withdraw and move away.
No longer one,
merely sand and water.

And those who love
without tender words
and soft caresses
will become the sand
which blows in the desert
and the water in
The Sea of Desolation.
