The Way Things Are
I never thought anyone would be able to understand me, but you do
You brought out of me a side I tried to hide from everyone
You made me tell you things that I had disclosed deep inside
You never laugh at me or mock me
You never tell me that my dreams and goals are set too high
You know me better than anyone else
And still you stay around
You accept me for who I am
Even I don't know why you do that
When I feel like crying, you know why
Then you look at me and make me smile
Like everyone I make mistakes
And you are always there to pick me up and set me straight
We may never talk so that others can hear
But our eyes say a thousand words
I know I take you for granted at times
The truth is I need you
I need you as a Christian brother
I need you as a friend, and maybe someday even more
I am sorry for all the times I have hurt you
Or made your anger rage
You will never know how important you are
Or of the role that you play in my life
