There's No Place Like Home
I stand here in total awe
Looking into your eyes
Mesmerized
By what I see deep within the hazel.
Worlds born, swirling in the cosmos,
Exploding in firey death
All within micro-seconds
Of your tender smile and sigh.
And dear God how I realize the depth of my love in that instant
Just before you reach out
To trace the line of my mouth
With trembling finger
Knowing how I will react
With instant need
Insistent and strong.
They say 'the eyes are a window to one's soul'
And we have lain awake in the night
Laughing at the sheer implausibility of such a trite phrase.
But right now I feel the truth of that old wives tale
Settle deep into my own soul
As I see the shining amber reflected
And know I am glimpsing the 'you'
That is well beyond this mortal facade we wear
For such a short interval.
I stand here in total awe
Looking into your soul
Mesmerized
By the beauty and resplendent love shining there
Seeing my own birth played out
Within the mysteries of your universe.
And in that very instant I know
With a supernatural clarity of understanding
That my very soul has come home
Where it has always belonged
United with yours
Together again, at last.
