A NOT-QUITE-PINK ROSE
A pale pink rose it's not
Florists say that such says grace and joy and gentility
Sure, the grace and joy part fit you
But what the hell is gentility
And the rose is not exactly pale pink
A hint of yellow hides within its petals
Such yellow says, by florists, joy and friendship
Oh yeah, I know joy (again) and friendship fits us, too
But no one else would see the yellow
And the rose says so much more
Closer yet but not quite,
A pale peach rose says modesty (according to florists)
Modesty might be you during the day
But the bedroom finds another you
And the rose is somewhere left of peach
The coral tones suffuse the bud
Florists like this uncommon color and what it means: desire
Wow -- we're getting close, I know
But coral might be just too strong
And the rose is softer yet
Sure, a red rose finds many places
The arranger knows why: "I love and respect you"
I have other ways to communicate that
So why not offer something special
And this non-red rose says just that
This rose colored of FLESH, so like yours
This rose of petals soft as your skin
This rose bearing a sweet fragrance, only a hint of you
This rose of luscious, perfect proportions
This rose unfolding as you unfold to me
On sweet and sensual nights
This rose of sparkling and unique beauty
I've yet to find the words that fit you best but
Ah yes -- this rose is you
