Roses In Your Hand
Sunday morning, in front of the barn
Brushing my horse, in simple peace and quiet
No one there, but Merlin and me
I had set myself to the task of untangling his knotted mane
He always managed to fix it so it would take me hours to undo
But, I never really minded it at all
For it was like relaxation therapy, for me
And it was such a pleasent day
The sun was shining, radiating its golden warmth
And there was a light breeze, blowing
I closed my eyes, for a moment
And breathed in the fragrant air
Ahhh, it smelled like spring...
Sighing, I slowly opened my eyes, there you were
I had to blink a few times
For I thought I was just dreaming
But, no, there you were, with roses in your hand
"Hey, Beautiful," you said, grinning
And I smiled, with sudden frantic joy
I saw your eyes dance with delight
Dropping my curry comb, I ran to you
(Forgetting all my 'horse sense' I momentarily startled my horse)
And threw my arms around your neck, hugging you tightly
(It was good to hold you, again)
You returned the hug, only letting up for a few moments, to kiss me hello
And what a kiss!
After a few minutes, I let go of you, reached out and took the roses
"They're lovely," I told you, as we walked back over to Merlin
"No, you're lovely..." you said, sweetly
I just smiled, and said nothing, stunned into silence by pure happiness
Almost shyly, you reached for my hand, clasping it in your own
And I had almost forgotten how much bigger your hands were, then mine
My hand seemed to disapear, swallowed by yours
Your hand was warm, and mine was cold, as usual
But, you didn't seem to mind...
You looked at me and laughed, softly
It was good-hearted, warm laughter
I didn't really know why you were laughing
So, I gave you that raised eyebrow, "What?" look
And all you said, still grinning, was...
"You scared that poor horse, you know that?"
