Speaking To The Sleeping Heart

Ah love, you are caught in the bedclothes
of emotion,
and the linens of your life
have twisted around your ankles
making you believe that you are caught
and in your sleep,
you chafe, and turn and fret
and you are loathe to speak
of my habits with blankets
for fear of wounding my waking self.
So I will gently tug, and smooth
and set things to right
to cover you lightly,
snug the pillows around you
so your are safe, but free
and then curl up beside you
and wait for the morning
knowing that maybe not to today,
and maybe not to tommorow,
but sleep will give you up to me,
when you are ready to open your eyes
to the lover
who whispered softly to your sleeping heart
when it was tired,
and in need of peace.
Dream sweet...
