Trillion cut

Trillion cut
the thunder rolled
the lights blinked
grew dim
and slowly returned.

The owner
of the little Chinese Inn
and her daughter
stood holding their breath
as I held you eye.

I have back up
I told you
knodding at the lightning
and the crashing thunder.

You could answer no
and take your chances
or yes
and see what comes next.

Either way
You'll have to face
the consequences
of your decision.

Trillion cut
the triangular diamond
glowed
even in the dimming lights.

Your face
outshown the lightning
you eyes flashing joy
your face diminishing
everything else in that instant.
Your yes,
I will swear for years to come
silenced the thunder.

Trillion cut
it sparkles on you finger
and our witnesses clapped for joy.

Trillion cut
my heart
silent and dead for so long
is pounding
shining
loud and fast.

You wear it
on your finger too
as surely as you wear
that ring.
