Warm Body
I was disconnected the day I drove away
in my two-tone brown Ford Granada
semi-sweet sixteen and still
unkissed, untouched
I had no one to run to
nowhere to go
the world was functioning fine
without my input and contributions
so I drove across Texas
listening to the radio
trying and failing to imagine a joyous future
where I would be adored...wanted...needed
all I had was the vast sky
and miles of highway
a few hours of freedom provided
by my stepdad's Chevron card
