Not Fade Away
May the sunlight feast upon my soul
chase dark clouds away
I'm a pilgrim in a foreign land
searching for a place to stay
No one knows the things I've seen
no one knows where I'm bound
I'm tracing pieces of myself
until I'm run to ground.
I spoke with Paul Simon in the park today
he read my own words back to me
he told me my own sad story
and showed me what I couldn't see
although the words were quite familiar
it wasn't as it seemed
and although the images were sharp
it wasn't what I'd dreamed.
She came to me last night in my dreams
with an expression most unkind
she said she'd come just to say she'd gone
as if it could have slipped my mind
I'm moving onwards but my pace is slow
my good intentions block my way
I didn't want to go like this
but better to burn out than fade away.
