What Could Have Been

What could have been,
We reminise.
And talk about then,
That and this.
The chilled october air,
The hard, cold bench.
The noises of the trains.
The stagnant stench.
But what a lie i tell right here,
for you don't remember all that.
You don't recall the date,
Or what we said in our chat.
You remember the kiss,
And the way I pulled away.
I remember your warmth,
I remember what day!
You recall it with vagueness,
I recall it crystal clear.
I remember shivering,
And you pulling me near.
I can still smell your fragance,
I can still hear your voice.
But all you remember,
Is my regretable choice.
And now as we talk,
It hangs in the air.
That lost piece of us,
When we were a pair.
And I know we're both thinking,
That phrase, so obscene.
Those awful few words,
"What could have been."
