Telephone

December 2, 2000

Ring, Ring, Ring.
I press the talk button,
Nothing but a dial tone.
I waited all day,
Stayed at home,
Near the phone.
I beeped you a million times,
Left voice massages.
The sun fell over the horizon.
The moon is high and full.
I still waited by the phone.
Everything's still,
Everyone's asleep.
I still wait for your call.
I’m afraid and sad.
You never failed to call me
Back before.
All the worst possible things
Run through my mind.
Are you in the hospital?
Are you sick?
Was there a fire?
But deep in my heart,
I know you not going to call.
You don’t care at all.
You saw my beeps,
And your Caller ID.
But your too busy talking to her.
I pick up the phone,
And answer quickly into the microphone.
It’s my aunt,
Who’s calling for my mom.
Tears roll down my checks.
She won’t brake your heart,
She’s very smart.
You’ll never call,
We’ll never talk.
My eyes are weary,
But also teary.
Please,
Forgive me for not being cheery.
I wish you’d call,
Give me a chance to talk.
Ring, Ring, Ring.
