The Missing You Chronicles Page #1
You ask if I thought about you during the week
and the thoughts line up at attention
and count off:
I thought of you once when I was watching the Simpsons-
and I remembered how we sat together on Halloween
and watched this, your favorite cartoon
while waiting for Trick-or-Treaters
and fed each other Butterfingers and Skittles.
I thought of you once when I was at the movies with some friends-
It was a hardly complex film with mediocre dialouge
and I missed criticizing and debating
and laughing at things
no one else finds funny
I thought of you once when I was playing a board game
that you taught me
and I beat everyone else
though I have never won
when you and I play together
and once when the first package
of gifts I bought for you arrived
and I looked through them all
knowing I selected things
that will make you happy
I thought of you once when I checked the Weather Channel
and saw the Florida sunshine
and once when my fingers were cold
and I thought of putting them on your warm back
and making you shiver
and laugh
and kiss me
I thought of you once the other night in bed
when I had a nightmare
and you weren't there to rub my back
and hold me till I fell asleep again
I must have stayed awake two hours
just wishing you were beside me right then.
and once again when I woke up the next morning
I thought of waking up to you
touching my face
or my hands
and gently kissing me awake
and making love in the early hours
then grinning all day.
I thought of you once when the phone rang
and I wished it was you
and once when I checked the mail
looking for a letter with your name on it
and I know there were at least
a dozen times
I thought of your kisses
or your eyes
or your smile
I suppose it might be easier instead
to ask if I have anything but you
on my mind.
