Merry Christmas

It is so late tonight
with the fire a banking on the hearth
hot cider a cookin on the stove,
lights all off but the christmas tree bulbs
twinklin so merrily,
and our quiet jovial argument
on who gets to pour.
Laying back on this sofa,
the weight of you
upon my chest,
one thing I seem to miss....
With that a pitter patter on the stairs
my daughter up now to join
this our wait for santa
on this so special of all eves.
Oof with the weight now of both my loves
so heavy upon my chest
I have to smile for these blessings
and when I catch my breath I can
announce santa has came and went
time to check the presents he left.
Merry Christmas.
