The Awakening

The mournful drone of a distant train
Puncutures her early morning dreams,
Reminding her of remorseful loneliness.

In night-time's theater she had a chance,
Chasing phantoms of fantasy from the past,
Remembering men she had crushes on,
Who pierced her heart many months before.

She awakes not in pain nor cold despair
At the sudden loss of love in life,
But with hope for tomorrow's promise.

She ponders the dawn of new-found trust
And wonders how one obsessed with lust and sex
And always longing for eternal love,
Can feel content with someone who seems to want
The comfort of being non-threatening friends.

But in the presence of such graceful charm
The body's lust subsides,
Allowing the mind to appreciate
How the other is uniquely special
Even if admired from afar,

She is grateful for the birth of friendship
Even as her empty heart years for more;
Dare she ever trust fate again
After so much pain and dsiappointment?

She fears apprehending future goals
But takes comfort in knowing no matter what comes,
She has met another with whom she can share
The simple joy of being together,
Not yet in love,
But the subtle delight
Of walking
And talking
Together
In like.
