Wisdom Written on the Lip of a Glass

Porcelain egret, dancer and glass
converge on frozen palettes of afternoon;
unrelated things conspire meaning.
Shape and form search for canvas yet
dangle, suspend relationship somewhere around
three o'clock.  By four, limbs and feathers shine
daliesque amid the fret of thought.

Day descends to diary, story and plot unfold
in the restlessness of baubles jammed in cabinets.
Dust cloth traces the significance of wing, foot and glass
wiping the anamnesis of smiles from crystal rim.

The glass, now expectant, poses like dancer-
waits for the feathers of a lip, the meaning
of a kiss.
