Against The Grain
Wrong way, on
a one way street,
Going full speed
with my eyes closed.
Only pulling over
every once in a
while for a siren.
Only to find the
emergency is me.
Swimming upstream
just to prove I can,
to show you I'm
no more weak than
you. However, every
now and again I float
just to let you
catch up. Seaching
for something that
has never been lost.
But wouldn't ya know
it's in the last place
I looked. Dancing
on broken glass,
but the only hurt
I feel is the
absence of you.
But when I need
someone to pick
me up when I finally
can't walk, you'll be
there to catch me
no questions asked.
When I shatter like
porcelin and you
see that I'm broken,
you'll glue me back
together, then return
me to the shelf. When I'm
eventually re-bulit back
up to where I belong,
you'll make sure to
tear me down. You break
every rule that's ever
been given, you move me
to do the same. We are
black to a rainbow, it just
doesn't work. We are
the last piece of the
puzzle that never fits
just right. We are high
heels to a sneaker. I bet
we look silly going against
the grain.
