Litany of Longing, Part III: Adoration

Some say I’m going too far.
Some say I repeat myself.
To them, I say,
“Look at the Bible.”

It’s all about one basic theme, right?
God.
Well, I’m all about one theme:
You.

And since you are God to me,
this makes
perfect
sense.

It makes as much sense as
your alabaster skin,
your eyes as blue as the ocean
that make me want to dive right in.

It makes sense like the rain.
It makes sense like the sunset.
It makes sense like a white fluffy cloud.
It makes sense like me being so well-endowed.

Some say I blow my own horn.
That’s not true.
The only horn I want to blow
belongs to You.

It’s true.
Yes, it is.
I swear to tell
the Whole Truth and Nothing But...

I don’t care if they all think you’re a slut.
I think you’re an Angel.
I think you’re my Angel.
I live only to merge my Soul with yours...

Because...

Some say I’m going too far.
Some say I repeat myself.
To them, I say,
“Look at the Bible.”

My message
as you can see
is simple.
So come Love me and stop wasting time.

Stop hoping I’ll get bored and go away.
Stop hoping I’ll fall in love
with your best friend instead.
Stop hoping I’ll be declared criminally insane.

My Love is like the sea
that comes pouring in.
My heart is like the Tin Man’s,
‘cept I’m not made of tin.

I’m just a man
waiting to be made Whole by you.
Don’t doubt me, please.
Believe me, all of this is true...

My Love should be called
the Great Unknown Continent.
I swear I’ll love you
when you’re old and ugly and incontinent.

But as for now
you look good enough to eat.
Come try my candy.
I know you have a weakness for sweets.

My Love is like a river
rushing onward to the sea.
Someday you’ll thank me, girl.
In the meantime give your body to me.

For what I feel inside this breast
Is not mere lust alone.
I promise I’ll treasure you
Like a dog loves his bone.

But more than that,
Oh so much more.
Take my gifts to you.
Please, please - I implore.

Taking no for an answer
Was never my strongest suit.
Just pretend you robbed a bank
And that I’m your valuable loot.

Take me to your house
And hide me away real good.
We’ll be snug and secure together
Like two termites in a piece of wood.

Then we’ll bore our way out
Into the light of day.
And I’ll see you clearly at last
And I won’t know what to say.

So you’ll say my words for me:

“Some say you’re going too far.
Some say you repeat yourself.
To them, I say,
‘Look at the Bible.’”

And the analogy is a good one.
The analogy is True.
My Soul longs to love
And what it longs to love is You.

It longs to love you deeply,
It longs to love you long,
It longs to love you sweetly,
It longs to love you like a song.

It longs to drink deeply
From the waters that are your Heart
Pierced only by Cupid
And his insolent little dart.

It longs to love you Forever.
It longs to love you for an Eternity.
It longs to love you for a millennia.
It longs to love you for a hell of a long time.

So please take my words
For what they are.
Please don’t leave my life
Like a falling star.

Please let me pull you close
And whisper in your ear.
Please let me kiss your cheeks.
You have nothing to fear.

Yes,
You are Holy to me,
This much is true.
Regrets? I have a few.

But too few to mention,
So I won’t.
Please don’t hate me.
My life would be ruint..

Nothing could console me,
Nothing could heal the hurt.
I’d feel like rubbish,
Like a pile of forgotten dirt.

But now I’ve found this community,
This place of Great Minds.
They don’t care what I look like,
Only what’s inside.

They listen to my pleadings
To You,
Woman
Of my dreams.

They listen to my longings,
Watch me come apart at the seams.
But through it all they’re there for me
Should I take a fall.

Yes, through it all they’re there for me
Even if I get so depressed
I want to drive my car
Straight into a brick wall.

They know what I’ve found in you.
They see your Divinity
And your Holiness
Too.

They know I’ve found a Love
That will last longer than Time itself.
They know I’ve found a Love
That is more precious than wealth.

They know I’ve found a Love
As solid as a glacier.
When asked why I live,
I have one word: “Her.”

They know
I’ve found
A Love
That finally makes sense...

A Love that makes sense like the rain.
A Love that makes sense like the sunset.
A Love that makes sense like a white fluffy cloud,
That makes sense like me being so well-endowed.

It makes as much sense as
Your alabaster skin,
Your eyes as blue as the ocean
That make me want to dive right in.

I don’t question the Will
Of God,
I just go with it.
But I know some will say this is all so much sh–.

To them
I have an answer,
And it’s short,
To the point:

“Look at the Bible.”

Yes,
Some of the greatest Art
Has been
on a single theme.

And no subject
Since maybe God
Has been worthier

Than You.

Do I exaggerate?
I do not.
Every last bit of this
Is nothing less than totally true.

You see,
The only thing harder
Than being
Me,

Is being me
without you.
Yes,
Unfortunately that’s true.

So stop playing games
And come Home into my arms.
I only want to Love you.
I’d never do you any harm.

Because “my Love is like a river
Rushing onward to the sea.
Someday you’ll thank me, girl.
In the meantime give your body to me.”

These words are Real,
The Realest things I’ve ever said.
I don’t care that it’s quite possible
You wish I were dead.

For all I’m left with is this Longing,
This Longing in my Heart.
I know once you spend one night with me
You’ll never want us to be apart.

This Longing is hard to live with,
And it breaks my Heart.
I want to sing to you every song ever written...
But this poem is a good start.

One day you’ll know
This Heart
Of mine,
And my Soul too.

You’ll know
That they’ll be broken and bruised -
Broken and bruised
Until touched by You.

For my Heart longs to love you deeply,
It longs to love you long,
It longs to love you sweetly,
It longs to love you like a song.

It longs to love you like eagles soar,
And mountain creeks flow.
It longs to love your ruby lips
And the places where the light doesn’t go.

So take my litany, take my song,
Only for what it is,
And know there’s more
to come.

Know that I’ll only
Stop singing to You,
When there are no more songs
To be sung

And all the bells
Are rung
And all the spit
Is off my tongue.

Yes, that's a long time
To be consoled by my sweet rhymes.
But don't get lazy now,
We haven't much time.

You can stop it all by coming
Into my arms right now.
I would tell you what we'll do
But that's more than the law will allow.

In the meantime my Heart waits,
And the wait it is long.
But remember my words
Ringing out like a sweet song...
