But it turned into five long years
of me
alone
with my fears
(and many cartons of Kools and bottles of Gallo's hearty burgundy).
I call you
but you say,
"Leave me alone."
You don't understand.
You hold a man's past against him -
all his DWI's
all his restraining orders
...as if all that proves anything.
You say,
"Don't ever call me again"
and ask me
what I want
as if
that could ever
be put
into words.
