Lazy Eights
In the end what will my good luck charms be
I wonder as you love me with your eyes
Will enough of your girl be left in me
To make you smile and take you by surprise?
Our good fortune and looks are fleeting things
Though it's true we were born with more than most
Can we stand tall when the fat lady sings
Cheer and raise our glasses high in a toast?
The wheel of fortune's revolutions go
On without ceasing, its eyes steely blind
You love and cherish me today, I know
But only the deepest roots stay entwined.
We will walk the path without illusions
And toss birdseed at the dawn's confusion.
