two pieces of paper
Two pieces of paper,
filled partially with my thoughts and emotions
now lie crumpled, discarded and unwanted
at the bottom of the trash can.
An aging banana peel, brown and squishy
an old coffee filter, soggy and used
curdling milk in a cardboard carton
keep my feelings company.
Soon the paper will be taken out to the curb
and along side the other trash; will sit and get cold
in the winter air.
When the garbage man comes
and takes it all away,
I will forget my feelings, my desires, my dreams.
At this time I dont mind.
I dont want to admit to what I've written.
So take something this personal away...
until someday.
I'll have a vague sense of memory
and a fleeting sense of regret
for the papers that I've thrown away.
