Body Wash
When I left,
I left my body wash on the shelf in your shower.
In my haste I took the body cream,
but forgot its partner.
I know when you are missing me most,
you flip the silver-grey lid
and inhale deeply
ylang ylang
and neroli .
By pressing your face against my nape
you said you could tell if I'd had a bad day,
the scent would be stronger there,
I never did tell you the secret key to your theory.
In my desk drawer,
I kept another small tube
and when frustration struck,
I'd rub that scent onto the back of my neck.
When I left,
I left my body wash on the shelf in your shower.
I didn't forget its partner --
and when I am missing you most,
I flip the silver-grey lid
and inhale deeply
ylang ylang
and neroli .
I've not found anything to replace that scent.
yet.
