sunset on Catalina Island

for one bright day we escaped the smog
and insanity and horror of L.A.
took a ride 26 miles across the Pacific
together we explored the island
eating dipped cones from the bakery
in the little shop across from the seafood restaurant
I bought you a Catalina Island souvenir globe
with glitter instead of snow
          then there was sunset
              on the beach
            looking out
           then looking into your eyes
           in the majestic crimson glow.
