Universal Sigh

yes, even peasants like us
have our drama
I'm wearing borrowed clothes
and we're adding color to our one bedroom apartment
with cheap Mardi Gras beads
but our life is a soap opera, sure
Dustin's in Albuquerque with forty bucks in his pocket
Autumn and Jeff won't answer their phone or return calls
and we fight every other day over the cyber equivalent
of prank phone calls/my dour disposition/your smoking habit/
my driving instructor mania when you get lost/eating granola
bars instead of spending money we don't have on a five dollar
blue cheese salad at Mazzio's...
we fight and I cuss like a truck driver with white line fever
we fight and we make up and make love the way it was meant
to be made
and you tickle my back
until I almost fall asleep
