Expression of the Whole
Along my heart there runs a dagger
Upon my soul there rests a stone
The torch I held now grows darker
Night finds me hurt, bereft, alone
The strength it takes, I took to hold thee
I used it all and am left with none
Now weakness wraps cold limbs around me
The peace and wholeness has fled, is gone
I shall honor this passage into darkness
Trusting that I will again see light
I shall honor this loss, this pain, this starkness
Blinding myself to gain greater sight
I'll not let my soul fall to the sea
I'll not join the legions who weep and moan
My brave face one day will brightened be
Till then I shall toil upon the stone
In every death there is new life
I'll seek among ashes for the fire
Night has shown me strength born from strife
Sheathed, here remains the dagger of desire
