Memories
MEMORIES
I know that you have forgotten me
And how our hearts were one
For a brief shining time
When we both were young
Teenage sweethearts long ago
Can you remember the innocent days?
I don't know how or why
We went our separate ways
I know you have forgotten
That summer day of bliss
When our lips came together
For our first tender kiss
I know you can't remember
Our first date and our talk
We rode to town with Mother
To get home we had to walk!
Late one stormy winter night
I listened to the icy wind
Alone in the ancient house
With lonely hours to spend
My thoughts went back to long ago
A lovely night in June
I remember how along your fence
The honeysuckle bloomed
You wore a fresh cotton dress
And I remember to this day
How your silken tresses
Smelled of new mown hay
Your eyes held many secrets
Which I longed to understand
I felt sweet reassurance
In the touch of your hand
I'm sure you've forgotten
All these little things
But they're all I have to cling to
Until we meet again
I know you have forgotten me
As most young lovers do
But you must know after all these years
I've never forgotten you.
