Downstairs

The light tumbled in, through the window
Golden rays softly illuminated my room
I lingered in that state of half-sleep
That groggy, warm wonderland
But, something pulled me toward consciousness
Slowly, surely I awoke...
Blinking and yawning, I sat up
And, gingerly, I rubbed my eyes
Suddenly, I recognized the sound that had woke me
I sat very still, and strained to listen
From downstairs, I could hear the sound of music playing
A song from a time, not so long ago
I had almost forgotten all the notes, and the words
But, they rushed into my mind, from my memory
Echoing the words, was a voice, singing soft
And I smiled such a smile...
I flew from my bed, and down the stairs
I came to a sudden halt, at the entrance to my kitchen
Standing over by the stove, there he was
Cooking bacon, making coffee, and singing sweetly
He looked up at me, with a spark in his eye
And smiled, that crooked grin of his
I couldn't believe it, that he was standing there
Making breakfast, in my kitchen...
"Hey, there, Good-lookin'," he said
God, I must have been glowing, and grinning
Happiness spread through me, lit up my eyes
My limbs moved on their own, as I bounded over to him
Fell into his arms, succombed to his kiss
It was so good to hold him, to feel him so close
I swear, I could have kissed him forever...
Pulling apart, for a moment to breath
"The bacon...," he started to say
"Damn the bacon," I said
And kissed him, again...
