Her hands are soft and supple, But also swift and strong, Quick to wipe away a tear, Or sooth a weary brow. The hands of a mother, lover, friend-- If her love you'd allow, The hands of one you can depend, As a soft place to fall. Her heart has been downtrodden, Yet she walks a virtuous path, Heavy burdens she does carry, From disaster's aftermath. Though her arms be strong, Her back is strained, and Stiffly she does tarry. Yet because she loves you, If she ever heard your call, She'd gladly pick up yours as well, Be your soft place to fall. So lay your head upon her breast, And hear her heartbeat there. She'll kiss away your worldly cares, And smooth your tangled hair. Lift your eyes to meet her own-- You'll see true feeling there. And a love for you that truly grew, Perhaps more than she could bear. And remember that the love she gives, If you return at all, Will be returned in multi-fold, The softest place to fall. |
