The Fisherman's Hook

Words meant for any
Words meant for many
Traps for the inexperienced
Amusement for the wise
Love wrapped in thin disguise

I watch the entertainment
at the others who are starved
who crave the words that they think
were sent to them and carved

with skillful hands
that penetrate, the soul and liver too
with artful manipulation
to stir them through and through

Just like them
I once had thought
that the words were sent to me
that they described how he felt
for the whole world to read and see

references to the things
that only he would know
and so I thought that he still cared
and my heart was soon a glow

But little slips of words were sent
that did not apply to me
little innuendos, meant for others
and so I began to see

This lead me to conclusions
that this fisherman of words
is using bait for several fish
to lure them into herds

like cattle to the slaughter
oblivious to their fate
they think that they are heading
into the arms of their future mate

It's hard to fool a pisces
a different kind of fish
they see through every intention
is it a curse, or perhaps a gift

I like to think of it as protection
for the heart and for the soul
I feel sorry for the others
who will play the part of fool

Sitting back and watching cautiously
the actor and his bait
I guess I'll keep on reading
and amusedly, I'll wait

I'm thankful that I'm happy
with my life, as it stands now
Not desperate nor hungry
nor driven like a cow

As the others are, to slaughter
Putting their hearts on the line
They are in some real big hurry
They don't seem to have the time

To wait and watch with caution
or to see so many clues
That the fisherman has baited hooks
For so many that he'd choose

I've watched on here amusedly
so many times before
reading the bait cast into the lake
and seeing the fish just pour

Into the stream to grab and bite
upon the fisherman's hook
greedily they snatched his words up
they never stopped to look

To see how truly generic
his words of tenderness flowed
fabulous phrases of passion's love
temptation seductively glowed

into their screens, into their hearts
into their craving minds
leading them to destruction
leaving all sense behind

I wonder why women allow themselves
to blindly throw away
their heart, and their sense of worth so easily
allowing him to play

Don't they even realize
the sea is full of fish
Millions of benign and soulful mates
more than they could wish

So why risk the fisherman
who has a baited hook
it's sharp and painful attributes
can't they see its deadly look

I wonder how many fisherman
exist around the world
using the internet and poetry
to attract unwary girls ???
