It began so shy, so sweet Replete with simple hope and trust How could this callow kinship cause such caustic decay and rot? Unhealthy, heavy, burdensome This all-consuming cancer of neverending need So swiftly we slipped down steep slick slopes To the abysses of obsession Where every vague apprehension Became our frightful, fretful fate. Can we ever regain our ground And ascend from this mordant morass To breathe again that cool clean air Of newfound nubile love? Innocence, once sullied, is never regained. Love, once soured, in never re-attained. |
