I listened as you drove away My heart pounding so loud in my ears That I had to strain to hear The sound of your truck as it left. Left out of my life. My eyes so blurred with tears That I could hardly see As I stumbled back into our room And collapsed on our bed That I would never share With you again. I wept, silently shaking, Trying to muffle my cries So that I would not awake Nikky Sleeping peacefully down the hall Unaware that his mother's life Had just changed, forever. I had been so afraid of this moment So sure that it would come anyway, But not wanting to really believe that You could just walk away so easily And not even think twice. "Please come back", I whispered Over and over in my head. Unable to believe that you Had really just left And taken my heart with you. Please come back... |
